Today Paul Chambers saw his conviction for sending a "menacing electronic communication" quashed. He had been convicted for tweeting "Crap! Robin Hood airport is closed. A 'Snooper's Charter'

The Queen announced the coalition's legislative agenda for this parliamentary session, including plans to radically expand the government's surveillance of everyone in Britain, the expansion of secret trials and changes to Defamation law.

"My government intends to bring forward measures to maintain the ability of the law enforcement and intelligence agencies to access vital communications data under strict safeguards to protect the public, subject to scrutiny of draft clauses."

The Coalition Government's Prevent counter terrorism strategy has been unveiled by Home Secretary Theresa May. Prevent has been billed as a plan to deal with all forms of terrorism and extremism including non-violent extremism.

Lord Mandelson asks for unlimited powers

Editor's picture

Lord Mandelson has asked for the most dangerous and far-reaching powers imaginable to fight his doomed battle against copyright infringement. In leaked documents he has asked for the power to amend the provisions of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act (1988) in any way he wants, at any time, with no parliamentary vote.

It goes without saying that giving an unelected official the power to invent laws on a whim is wrong, but it's his reason for wanting this extraordinary power that should give the most cause for concern.

Our Core Beliefs

Editor's picture

Just a quick message for all our new members, whilst we are very grateful for all the suggestions about different policies that we should adopt, the Pirate Party U.K. intends to remain on topic and concentrate on our three core beliefs;

1. The reform of Copyright and Patent Laws

2. The protection of our Right to Privacy

3. The protection of our Right to Freedom of Speech
