Your Government has failed you

Today we have heard the saddening news that the IP Bill has been through the 3rd and final reading in Parliament, and is now subject only to Royal Assent. In short, it is now inevitable that the bill will become law. That such an intrusive bill can become law, supported by both major parties, is a saddening indictment of the current state of politics.

Pirate Party Spokesperson for Young People, Michael Moriarty said:

"Obviously this is not the outcome any of us wanted. Parties in government have either pushed this bill or formed an ineffective argument against it and even now opposition parties are dumbfounded as to what to do next."

Pirate Party Justice Spokesperson Mark Chapman said:

"In the Pirate Party, we will be offering advice to anyone who feels they need protecting from this bill. Soon we will publish an FAQ on how to protect your privacy in a country that watches everyone.

"The more people use encryption and surveillance avoiding browsers/search engines, the more it demonstrates to the Government the futility of their intentions. As we have said previously, when looking for a needle in a haystack, it doesn't help to add more hay.

Pirate Party Spokesperson for Young People, Michael Moriarty added:

"We haven't given up. Fighting for our civil liberties is a continual struggle and sometimes you lose a battle but we will work to repeal this invasive and impractical bill. We welcome all who want to be a part of that fight with us."

About Pirate Party UK

The Pirate Party in the UK is a fledgling political party. It has fielded a few candidates in Local, European and National elections, but like most small parties it is significantly constrained by the UK electoral system.  Despite this, the Pirate Party now has one representative in local  government and is looking to build support from the grass roots.
