AZ025/AZ026 - 10.1.1 Elections -> Election Types -> FPTP

Postby azrael » Thu Aug 26, 2010 2:46 pm

Affects 10.1.1

AZ025 Create sub-section
Code: Select all
10.1.1 FPTP Elections

AZ026 Create sub-section
Code: Select all
10.1.1.1 The following elected position(s) must use the FPTP electoral process: none

This clause from wiki deals with FPTP, as at the time we had some elections using that system. With our recent supposed ability to handle AV elections for single positions, there seems no point having any FPTP elections. We may as well not have any FPTP rules in the constitution. But if anyone thinks we should we can include this clause.

for sake of neatness I'll label future 10.1 sub clauses incrementing for this one on the basis that they can be decremented if this clause is not passed (pretty much assume that for every clause!)

EDIT: My intention was to include this in the discussions process to make it absolutely clear we are proposing NO positions are elected via FPTP and to give people the opportunity to object. Ultimately if everyone expressing an interest is aware of that and doesn't object, it serves its purpose and doesn't need to be written into the constitution. Hence it is my intention that the clause will not make it as far as being voted upon.

my opinion

All elections can run under one system, so we don't need to define a load of different systems with different rules for different elections, instead have a section defining the rules of the single universal election system, and say "all internal party elections will be done this way". Simples :)

Hi Finlay,

just gone round in circles wondering where to reply to you on this one :)

you're absolutely right that we can consider an AV election to be an STV election for 1 position. Total brain fail for me! Trying to work out best way to amend.
I think I'll amend a few clauses which will still be separate (maybe unnecessarily) for the moment for neatness, but later down the process depending how identical they look we can consolidate down. Of course, if your n<seats is used for Board, may want to keep the separate clauses anyway.

Would it be worth making that clear in the original post? perhaps an edit stating as much as you have just said to avoid confusion?
