SE meeting: Sat Oct 9 2010 London

Postby azrael » Wed Sep 22, 2010 9:08 pm

Hi all,

As per the previous planning thread, the next SE meeting will be on Sat 9th October, and will be held in London. I will liaise with the London region to see if they can join us.

If you can attend on Saturday 9th, make yourself known.

I'm afraid that I'm currently scheduled to be in Bristol on the 9th, so I'm unlikely to be able to make it.

As far as "things to do" are concerned, I suggest flyering, followed by pub.

In the thread in the Greater London forum I said I should be able to go. I can confirm that barring a true emergency I will most definitely be in attendance.

I'd like to thank everyone that made it to this meeting.

There were some thoughts aired at the meeting that require followup:

That we are all looking forward to the conference and that we should feedback to the organisers that the sooner a programme of events is published the better. It was also noted that inviting in guest speakers from all sides of the debate (those to either side of our positions) might encourage turnout and create for some good discussions. One suggestion was to see if we could get Prof Gary Hall of Coventry Uni (you were right JohnB!) to attend - he is the guy that spoke and was present at AndyR's first public speech at regent's park's treehouse.

Everyone was generally positive about the idea of a merged every-other meeting between London and the SE.

Discussion about newly signing up members and whether they should be presented with a choice to opt in/out of an auto-subscription to their region's forum area.

'Maybe flyering' was downgraded to a 'no point flyering just for the sake of it, need a purpose and an area chosen for it' and so no flyering occured. Everyone was generally in favour of the idea of targetted flyering - but no decision was made on a where and when.

Next merged meeting to be held Dec 11th at same venue, Camel & Artichoke.

don't see why they are mutually exclusive tbh.
