South East Meetings - August & September

Postby azrael » Wed Aug 18, 2010 3:06 pm

Hi all,

With the last meeting cancelled, it has now been quite a while since there has been a South East meeting, so I'd like to remedy that.

First I'd like to be a little opportunistic, I am going to be in Oxford on Wednesday 25th August. I know there are a good number of members in Oxford, but I don't know if you're students or not, and therefore may not be there in August, but it is worth a shot. I'm going to plonk myself down in a coffee shop for about 1pm and be there for an hour or so and would love to use the opportunity to meet with members and chat. Depending on expected turnout we'll probably be very informal, but it is a perfect opportunity for a little networking.

If you are in Oxford on 25/08/2010 and have time, drop me a line on s.ogden@pirateparty.org.uk and we'll sort out an exact venue (I'll post more info on here based on results of those contacting me).

Secondly, and slightly less opportunistically, I'd like to schedule a meeting for Saturday 4th September in Guildford.
I'm thinking we should meet in Starbucks (GU1 3AW - High Street) at 2pm. We'll chat and socialise a little, and then hit the High street for some flyering and make our way to The Drummond (GU1 4RF) - Starbucks to The Drummond

Please indicate your availability to attend either of these events by posting a reply in the forum, or by email to s.ogden@pirateparty.org.uk

if i'm not working the wednesday i might be able to make it - Basingstoke to Oxford isn't that much of a stretch - however I'll be able to say tomorrow when next week's schedules are released.

saturday is (99% sure) impossible - but again, I'll know for certain tomorrow.

I can't be there. Because I'm going on holiday. To France. Ahahahahaha!

See you all on the 4th.

Just want to report back that today's Guildford even was great! Not as much turn-out as I'd have liked, but we staked out our own area of the high street, duct-taped Peter's banner to some convenient scaffolding, and then politely engaged many passers-by in conversation.

We had out fair share of those that ignores us, but many took our flyers *even* after hearing what this Pirate Party UK thing was all about.

One guy took a flyer, saw what is was for, declared "I don't like that stuff" and gave it me back, only to then declare "Actually, yes I do!" and snatch it back from me. It takes all sorts!

After nearly two hours of flyering (and actually time flew past, it was actually quite fun) we adjourned to the Drummond for some lovely weissbier and (in my case) a fantastic burger!

For those of you unable to make it, you missed a great day, hope to see you soon for the next!
